Salvador Díaz was born in Mexico, D.F., on September 18th of 1977. His
family lived in the zone, (suburb) of Tlatelolco. Since 1985 he lives and works
in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, to where his family moved after the earthquake that
affected Mexico City, in that year.
He
developed his artistic formation as self-taught, supported by theoretical and
practical workshops with recognized masters in the Faculty of Visual Arts at the
Autónoma de Nuevo Leon University UANL in 1995-1996 and at the Monterrey
Contemporary Art Museum, MARCO.
Since
December of 1997 Salvador is represented by The Arte Actual Mexicano Gallery.
The Fernando Pradilla Gallery began to represent him in December of 2002, and
recently Brown Bag Contemporary as well.
He
has exhibited his work in individual and collective shows in Museums, Contemporary
Art Fairs and Galleries in Mexico, the United States, Canada, Colombia, Venezuela,
Argentina, France, Spain, Germany and England. In addition to these Countries,
he has also traveled to Brazil and Belgium. Salvador was granted the 1998-1999
Conaculta-Fonca Young Creative National Scholarship and the 2002 Conarte-Foneca
Young Creators State Scholarship.
Sr.
Díaz, also participated in the 5th Monterrey Femsa Biennial. Salvador has
taught painting workshops at the UANL Visual Arts Faculty, CEDIM (Centro de Estudios
Superiores de Diseno de Monterrey) and MARCO. He is a member of the Council for
the Culture and the Arts Council of Nuevo Leon and represented the Visual Arts
Guild during the period 2004-2007.
Salvador's
works are in public collections including the CGAC Galego Contemporary Art Center
(Centro Galego de Arte Contemporanea, Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and private
collections as well in Monterrey, Mexico City, Puebla, Madrid, Sao Paulo, Bogota,
Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose (California), Antwerp, Buenos Aires,
Chicago, Miami, New York, Toronto, London, Munich, Breda & Brussels.
Salvador
Díaz stands out in the art world by the unique subject of his work, his
impeccable dominion of his pictorial skills as well as a strong critical personality
reflected in each one of his art works.
As
complement to his artistic education currently Salvador is studying at the Philosophy
& Humanity School within the Philosophy and Literature Faculty of the UANL
Autónoma de Nuevo Leon University.
